How Can A Naturalized Citizen Of The U.S. Obtain A Passport?

There are so many rules and regulations when becoming a naturalized United States citizen and a person could easily become overwhelmed but when the process is over, they want to breathe a sigh of relief and just be thankful the process is over. But we would recommend that you dont stop there. You should consider applying for a United States passport. While it is widely understood that you cant travel internationally without a passport, some overlook the value of this superior form of identification. Getting a passport has also been made easier than ever with an expedited U.S. passport service.

There are several reasons it is a good idea for a newly naturalized citizen to purchase a passport. Your citizenship certificate is good for a lifetime but you dont want to risk loosing the only document proving your citizenship. With a passport in hand, you dont have to carry your citizenship document with you and can, therefore, keep it in a safe place. Also, if you do plan to travel outside the United States, this document will not grant you reentry into the United States. A passport is a must.

You see, American passports can be used as identification in place of naturalization certificates when applying for jobs; when questioned by authorities, or simply when you need to show a valid form of identification. Of course, a passport also serves as a way to travel around the world. With a passport in your bag, you can visit anywhere you like in the world and always gain re-entrance into the United States. Also, having a passport beforehand reduces the stress, cost, and preparation associated with last-minute travel plans.

If you are a naturalized citizen, you will need to be present in person, and you will also need to bring your naturalization certificate with you when you apply. Your application will be sent to one of the two passport processing centers of the United States Department of State, the only place where passports can be issued out. The application must include your certificate of naturalization, two acceptable passport photos, along with your physical paper application. Because you will be temporarily missing your only proof of United States citizenship, it is a good idea to make a copy of your certificate of naturalization to keep with you. The process could take up to eight weeks, and you might need to use it before then.

There are two places where you can apply for your passport. Since this is your first passport, you are required to apply in person. You will need to visit either the State Department passport agency or a passport acceptance facility. Its recommended you visit the passport acceptance facility, unless you need an expedited passport service, where they recommend you visit the passport agency.

We want to congratulate you on becoming a United States citizen and encourage you to go one step further. Apply for your United States passport. It will provide you another quality form of identification and proof of citizenship and permit you to maintain your original citizenship document in a safe place. If you dont want to wait eight weeks, be sure to check out an expedited United States passport service. You will discover an experience both efficient and stress free.
