When you are suffering from depression its difficult to get answers on insurance. Some insurances give mental health insurance but most dont. So, the challenge with travel insurance is making sure you can find one that will cover something your primary will not.

Life insurance policies could provide you with coverage for your trip, but you should ask if your premiums would also increase because of it. Because depression has a lot of forms, it may be required to get documentation for your primary care physician or your psychiatrist in order to make the determination of benefits and costs as a result. These are some things to consider before getting travel health insurance, whether it is one way travel insurance, or emergency travel insurance.

There is another policy called Critical Illness insurance that may be available, so just make sure that you ask which one is right for you. Once you call them, be sure to ask if you are also covered the same way while traveling. This is essential in case there is an issue while you are abroad. Traveling could be a good thing for depression however it isnt the case with Major Depressive Disorder or Manic Depression. They will have to get specific with you, but its simply to make sure that they can get you the coverage you may need while you travel.

Some companies classify depression in a different way. One thing to be looking for as you shop for your policy is something known as medical excess. Medical Excess is often dealing with things that are not basic health problems. To put it differently, this would not be if you have a cold or the flu. This would call for special medical attention or something that needs serious medical treatment. When calling for information, be sure to ask about medical excess, and ask what that company covers.
