California Coast Traveling

September 2nd, 2010

Among the things I appreciate the most about living from the West Coast are my coastal california. I need to admit it. Despite all the traffic and the difficulties, I love living in California. And one of the things I enjoy most is the chance to take off for either a weekend or perhaps a full vacation and drive Pacific Coast Highway (Highway 1) up the California coastline, weaving around the windy road, stopping at small bistros to enjoy a meal of buttermilk pancakes or a cup of freshly brewed cofprice as well as a croissant.

I remember my very very first Coastal California. It was throughout my college break, me and my husband, not having enough cash on us to fly anywhere by to the spring break, just threw in a towel, swimsuit, the closest pair of jeans and sweatshirt we could lay our hands on and a sleeping bag into the car, topped it with gasoline and ended up off.

With Don Henley popped into the CD player, we drove along the PHC and stopped in Pacific Palisades at the Ralph’s marketplace for snacks just before resuming our excursion. We had set off with no such “plan”, except to only appreciate the time we had, but the 4 days which followed were a blast. Our Coastal California started in Santa Monica. Along the method to Santa Barbara, our only stop was Malibu to observe the windsurfers there.

We loaded the meter with coins – sufficient for a couple of hours then hiked to the pier where we took in the salty fishy smell and ate a delicious lunch of fish tacos and chips from a nearby eating place the raced back to the car with barely enough time to avoid a ticket, continued the drive north, stopping in the tiny town of Cambria getting a little souvenir of a dolphin at “The Soldier Factory.”

As the sun began to fade and darkness descended, my husband and I suddenly realized that spending the night in our cramped car may not be such a magnificent idea so we asked a local about a bed and breakfast and were guided to a gorgeous little property called the Dreydon House B&B. We were surprised at not only how highly affordable but also the hospitality as we were shown our lovely little room.

Our original plan was to keep driving, but when we woke up, we felt so rejuvenated that we dropped any further plans and spent the rest of our trip in Cambria itself. We explored the town, played inside tide pools in the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve and even saw the red-tailed hawks soaring free high in the sky and migrating whales spouting.

We continued with our trip by visiting the major attraction of Cambria-: Hearst Castle. This is an ultimate traveller destination should never be left out by any traveller. We were amazed at the sight of the Neptune Pool and also the gardens.

On the forth day, we packed up, headed back to Los Angeles, and started to attend the school with a refreshed spirit the other day. We did go for numerous road vacations to California after this a single but surely, this initial one is the most memorable one of them all.
